Chloe Thorley from Belong Macclesfield has been crowned winner of the Care Home Cook/Chef Great North West Care Award, earning a place in the national finals of the Great British Care Awards taking place on 16th March 2018.
The award recognises the ‘whole home approach’ to food and nutrition issues within the care home, looking at staff training/awareness sessions, nutrition-related activities in the home, water provision, the use of local produce, etc. The winner will provide a worthwhile meal experience, offer a wide and varied menu, enhance quality of life, provide and promote healthy food choices, maintain good standards of hygiene and environmental health, contribute towards a sustainable environment and adhere to the CQC’s Outcome 5 Meeting Nutritional Needs.
Chloe’s ‘food first’ approach has contributed significantly to improved appetites, wellbeing and weight gain amongst the village’s residents, including those with more advanced health needs.
Aged 29, from Bollington, Chloe has been recognised for her commitment to ensuring that residents are stimulated by their taste buds and her delivery of training to the wider care team. This resulted in praise in the village’s recent CQC report which highlighted its approach to providing a range of tasty and nutritional meals.
