Bournemouth care home Great Oaks hosted a live music event on Friday June 28th to mark this year’s National Care Home Open Day, inviting residents, their families and the local community to come together for a barbecue lunch.
Guests and residents were also able to enjoy an ice cream of their choice throughout the day, while listening to local saxophonist and vocalist duo, Vox & Sax, and a special musical performance from local pianist, Sam Hayward, who is a Fine Art student at Arts University Bournemouth.
Now in its seventh year, National Care Home Open Day encourages care homes to open their doors to the community in order to promote friendship, make connections and celebrate older and vulnerable people. The free event brought people to the home who were all keen to show their support for the day, which celebrated the role of arts in care and was marked by over 200 care homes across the UK.
Sara Muslin, Care Home Manager of Great Oaks, said: “We always show our support for National Care Home Open Day and can definitely see the benefits that the event has on our residents’ wellbeing, by boosting their sociability skills.
“We had such a great time celebrating the essential role that art plays in care and will continue to host events such as this for years to come.”
Great Oaks is the latest addition to an established family of care homes managed by Encore Care Homes, with two other care homes in Christchurch and Fareham, and a fourth due to open in Poole later this year.
