In response to the COVID-19 crisis and lockdown, Runwood Homes has set up a group-wide ordering platform to ensure that all of its 71 residential and nursing homes across the country have access to the same produce and support.
Group head of hospitality, Chris Williams, told Care Home Catering: “We have worked on catering contingency plans with our supply chain and staffing being at the forefront of concern. The group wide system is monitored on a daily basis to ensure stock is still at an adequate level. We have back up suppliers on hand in case there is a sudden shortfall and the procurement team are issuing an updated contingency plan daily.
“Using the new platform, I will be able to place orders for all homes remotely and keep food going into the homes, though I will be visiting as many homes as I can to continue supporting and communicating the contingency plan. Home visits will be done safely and I will meet with one key staff member only to keep in line with social distancing.”
In light of kitchen teams potentially being affected by the virus, Williams has designed a full ‘no cook, ready to eat’ menu, enabling non-cookery staff to deliver meals safely throughout the day, for all dietary needs and texture modification.
Recruitment has also begun for cooks so that the group has a bank of staff lined up to cover any sickness, if required.
