To mark October being Vegetarian Month, Vegetarian for Life has launched a card writing campaign that it hopes will raise a smile among isolated older vegans.
The charity has had cards printed with rescued ex-battery hens on the front, and is calling upon members of the vegan community to write a short message inside.
Respondents will then be required to send their cards back to the charity, who will mail them to care homes with vegan residents throughout October.
“The pandemic has been particularly challenging for some older vegans, including those living in care homes who haven’t been able to receive visitors,” says Amanda Woodvine, chief executive of Vegetarian for Life. “Even before the pandemic, many care home residents had no visitors at all. So we want to put a smile on their face, with your help.
“It’s easy to get involved, and 10 minutes of your time could really make a difference to care home residents.
“We aim to send cards and a small vegan gift to over 1,500 care homes with vegan residents, raising over a thousand smiles.”
Cards can be requested by emailing [email protected] or by calling 0161 257 0887.
