Residents from a Frome care Home enjoy a visit to Santa's Grotto

Residents from the Frome-based Cathrine House Care Home recently enjoyed a pre-Christmas visit to Santa’s Grotto at Critchill Manor Estate.
When the home’s minibus arrived at the venue, Santa’s helpers greeted the group and the day’s festivities began. Resident Kathleen immediately commented on how amazing everything looked as she entered the elf’s workshop, while Ruby wasted no time asking where Santa was, as she fully intended to sit on his lap and remind him how well she’s behaved this year! There was no hiding her admiration for Santa, and at one point she asked Mrs Claus if she might take him home, but sadly, he had far too many presents to deliver for that!

As the group settled into the warmth of the grotto, a wonderful conversation with Kathleen and Mrs Claus opened the door to old memories and happy childhood stories began to surface. Kathleen shared how meaningful it was to feel those moments returning - reminders that play such an important role in holding on to past histories.
Before the group said their goodbyes, each resident received a gift, before heading over to the club house to enjoy a hot drink, mince pies, and biscuits, a special treat that was arranged by the relatives of resident Patrick, who run the club house.
Looking back on the day, registered nurse Aaron and activities co-ordinator Sharon reflected: “It truly is the most wonderful time of the year, and the Catherine House family felt that magic during their visit to one of Frome’s enchanting Christmas villages.
“One of the most unforgettable moments was seeing Monica exchange playful remarks with Santa and Mrs. Claus and her laughter was contagious.
“There are some outings that stay with people long after they return home and this visit was one of them as it wasn’t just about meeting Santa; it was the familiarity of the scene, the small details that stirred memories and the sense of being part of something recognisable at this time of year.”
