New shop introduced at home as part of scheme

Wisden Court, in Stevenage, created a mobile shop for residents to pick up treats as part of its ‘we said, you did’ initiative.

An initiative to understand changes residents would like to see in their care home has been hailed a success.

The team at Wisden Court, in Stevenage, put in place the 'you said, we did' scheme after a monthly residents' meeting.

Its aim was to encourage residents to voice the changes they would like to see in the running of the home, with a board showcasing the suggestions on display.

One resident said they missed doing their own shopping, and in response the home, which is run by Runwood Homes Senior Living, created its own mobile shop, allowing residents to browse and pick up treats and basic items.

Another said they would like more variety on menus, so the home has encouraged residents to have an input during meetings, while one person said they would like to do some cooking. In response, the team bought a hotplate and mixing bowls for some simple cooking activities.

Tracey Fletcher, home manager at Wisden Court, says: "Our residents' opinion of their home is so important for us to capture. This initiative has helped us to further engage with residents and shows them they are understood, and we will always take the time to listen to them.”
