Avery Healthcare host virtual chef forums

Avery Care Homes take part in virtual chef forums to share ideas and support each other.

With covid-19 still posing a threat to care home residents, chefs and culinary staff across the Avery group have been taking part in virtual chef forums, organised by Avery’s Simon Lawrence, Head of Culinary and Hospitality, and Gareth Cartledge, Regional Culinary and Hospitality Manager.

Joined by catering specialists from the care sector, the sessions provided an opportunity for the care homes’ culinary teams to share ideas, discuss initiatives taking place across homes, and receive feedback and support with any ongoing challenges in their kitchens.

Cartledge and Lawrence both noted that staff really embraced the forums and one of the main takeaways from the event was despite the challenges, communication between culinary staff in the wider team is key in making individuals feel supported and valued.

Jo Crossland, Avery’s Head of Dementia Care discussed the importance of texture modified meals for residents living with dementia, and Zahid Khan, Avery’s Head of Well-being and Activities who opened up about the importance of how food can affect a residents’ wellbeing.

“It’s wonderful to see everyone together and a special thanks for all your hard work over a difficult period,” Lawrence says. “I look forward to catching up with everyone again soon, hopefully within Avery kitchens.”
