Care chef publishes recipes from award-winning menu

Care chef Verity Sims has published the recipes from the three-course menu that won her Anchor’s Chef of the Year competition.

A chef at a Southampton care home has published the recipes which won her the Chef of the Year title from care provider Anchor.

Verity Sims, chef at Anchor's Dawson Lodge care home, has published the recipes from the three-course menu that won her the 2021 Chef of the Year award in Anchor's in-house competition.

Sims took inspiration for her recipes of cream of tomato soup, chicken and ham pie and sticky toffee pudding from her residents. She often spends time with residents talking about their favourite comfort meals and these conversations inspired her to enter.

She won the competition in October last year and has now shared her winning recipes in time for the start of this year’s in house competition. Sims has released a video of her making the recipes and talking about her inspiration behind them. The video, along with the recipes, can be found on Anchor’s website here.

Sims says: “I had so much fun coming up with these recipes and winning Anchor’s Chef of the Year competition was wonderful. I’m delighted we could put the recipes online to share with everyone who might like them. I pride myself on making recipes that the residents of Anchor’s Dawson Lodge care home will enjoy. They’re my biggest inspiration and hopefully lots of people will find out why after trying these recipes. Also, good luck to all the competitors for this year’s competition."

Mitchelle Perry, manager of Dawson Lodge, says: “Verity more than deserved to be crowned last year’s Chef of the Year. Her sticky toffee pudding is particularly excellent. Verity’s recipes are a wonderful reflection of her ability as a chef and her great relationship with our residents at Anchor’s Dawson Lodge care home. It’s wonderful how much time Verity spends with our residents making her recipes and now her award-winning recipes are free for all to enjoy."
