THE POWER OF PROGRESSION – More new speakers are unveiled

Richard Ayres from Care England and Mark Glenister from The Burnt Chef Project will join Jamie Clews and Rachael Masters as speaker at the event

The names of two further speakers at the 2025 edition of the Care Home Catering Forum, which will take place on Thursday 5th June at Farmers & Fletchers Hall in London’s Barbican, have now been revealed.

Richard Ayres of Care England and Mark Glenister from The Burnt Chef Project will join Jamie Clews of Metcalf Catering Equipment and Rachael Masters of Focus on Undernutrition as speakers at the event.

Richard Ayres is a social care advisor at Care England, who spent 25 years in procurement for Harrods, British Gas, Virgin, Morgan Stanley and Bupa, and 14 years in adult social care for homecare and care homes.

He is also a foster carer of some 10 years standing, who is fully immersed in social care from a commissioning and provision perspective..He is currently advising care providers on funding, regulatory, workforce, procurement, and operational challenges, finding solutions and advocating for change at both a local and central government level, as well as the CQC and NHS.

Richard’s presentation will focus on the White Paper recently published following a collaboration between Care England and OHK, which recommends a complete overhaul of dysphagia services in care environments.

With a career spanning over a decade in the hospitality and nonprofit sectors, Mark Glenister has cultivated a deep passion for creating supportive, inclusive environments where people can thrive. Currently, serving as operations manager for The Burnt Chef Project, he is working to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health within the hospitality industry.

Having faced his own mental health challenges, Mark fully understands the importance of fostering a culture of openness and support and this personal experience fuels his dedication to The Burnt Chef Project's mission of driving meaningful change in an industry he holds close to his heart.

In his presentation, Mark will explain how kitchen staff can mitigate some of the stresses and strains that occur in a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment and advise how employers can also help to lessen the load by implementing supportive strategies in the workplace.

Richard and Mark’s presentations will complement those of Jamie Clews who will tackle the thorny topic of food waste in care homes and Rachael Masters who will explain how the recommendations in the Care Home Digest that was launched by the British Dietetic Association last June, can be successfully implemented.

There will be a total of eight speakers at the event, which will also feature a dedicated exhibition where delegates can discover the latest products and innovations from some of the industry’s leading suppliers.

A further highlight of the Forum will be the announcement of the winners of the 2025 Care Home Catering Awards in five categories:

  • Chef of the Year
  • Group Care Home Caterer of the Year
  • Independent Care Home Caterer of the Year
  • Care Home Catering Team of the Year
  • The Above and Beyond Special Award

Farmers & Fletchers Hall is a modern, purpose-built conference venue, which is easily accessible from the Barbican, St. Paul’s, Moorgate and Farringdon underground tube stations.
