Kent care home welcomes children for a day of baking fun
Residents at Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home invited their young friends from Cinderella’s Daycare for a special baking session
The power of intergenerational friendships was on full display at a Dartford-based care home as residents teamed up with children from a local daycare centre to bake treats.
Residents at Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home in Wilmington, Dartford, were delighted to welcome their young friends from Cinderella’s Daycare for a special baking session. The children, who visit the care home fortnightly, bring energy, laughter and companionship to residents through fun activities such as arts and crafts and cooking.
John Hudson-Beddows, home manager of Sonya Lodge, says: “We always look forward to these visits, they truly brighten up residents’ days. The children bring so much energy, joy and laughter, and it’s heartwarming to see the friendships that have formed between them and our residents.
He continues: “These moments of connection are incredibly special, creating a sense of warmth, purpose and shared happiness. Whether it’s baking, crafting or simply chatting, the time spent together is cherished by everyone. The residents are already counting down the days until their young friends return for another fun-filled visit.”
On this visit, the intergenerational group came together to celebrate ‘World Nutella Day’, by baking delicious, chocolate cupcakes. With plenty of teamwork, they measured, mixed and decorated their creations, though not without a little playful mess.
Ultimately, the children embraced working alongside the residents, who in turn enjoyed letting out their inner-child.
Angela, a resident at the home, said: “I really love it when the children come in, you can see how it cheers up all the folks that live here. It’s great to spend time with people both young and old, and I look forward to each time they visit us.”Cinderella’s Daycare, located in Temple Hill, has over 30 years of experience in nurturing young children. The daycare fosters a stimulating and social environment through a variety of creative activities including cooking and arts and crafts, as well as outdoor adventures such as nature walks and playground visits.
