VfL launches Awards for Excellence in Veg*n Care Catering 2024

With more vegans and vegetarians moving into residential care every year, these annual awards recognises those who are pioneering the way in modern care catering

Care setting charity Vegetarian for Life (VfL) has launched the eighth edition of the VfL Awards for Excellence in Care Catering, which is designed to honour and celebrate 2024's rising stars in vegan and vegetarian care catering.

With more vegans and vegetarians moving into residential care every year, this annual award recognises those who are pioneering the way in modern care catering. Once again, the awards ceremony will take place at the Houses of Parliament and is expected to be held on the afternoon of Thursday 12th September.

Explaining the rationale for the awards programme, Amanda Woodvine, chief executive officer at VfL, says: “We believe that care caterers who make a special effort to create delicious and nutritious vegan and vegetarian meals deserve special recognition – and this is what are awards are all about.”

 

The categories for the 2024 Excellence in Vegn Care Catering awards are:

Vegan/Vegetarian Care/Hospital Caterer of the Year

For this award, which is open to both individuals and teams, the judges will be looking for a care/hospital caterer who is making a wide range of delicious and nutritious meals for older vegans or veggies in a care setting

Vegan/Vegetarian Supplier of the Year

The winner of this award will be a supplier that is offering either a great range of vegn products OR a single vegn product that shows innovation, taste and variety. The product(s) may be standalone or used as a key ingredient in a recipe and must be specifically available to care/hospital caterers.

Chefs’ Hero Product

VfL is inviting chefs to nominate their favourite go-to hero product when developing menus and recipes for vegans and vegetarians in care homes and hospitals.

Most Innovative Vegan/Vegetarian Recipe

The judges are looking for a recipe that can be used within a care or hospital setting or simply cooked at home. It will have to deliver great taste, value and innovative use of ingredients. Submitted recipes will be shared with VfL members and stakeholders and featured on all media platforms.

The Beulah Charity Trust Special Recognition Award 

This award will go to that special someone who strives to make the UK a better place for older vegans and vegetarians. The deadline for entries is fast approaching and entries should be submitted by 12pm on Thursday 18 July.
