Spen Court care home opens Dementia Cafe

A care home in Heckmondwike has opened a new café’s doors to the local community

A care home in Heckmondwike has opened a new café’s doors to the local community. Providing support to care staff, the Dementia café in Spen Court welcomes those in need of social respite.

“We’re really looking forward to making more friends in our local community. The condition itself can be quite lonely and frightening, and the more support we can provide to each other, the better,” says acting general manager, Kirsty Bamford.

Every last Wednesday of the month between 2-4pm, carers are invited to gather and support others living with dementia or affected by it, from personal carers, to residential staff.

“If anyone is unable to make it on the day but would like to pop in for a tour and a cup of tea, our doors are always open,” Bamford adds.
