Langford Park Care Home appoints a new manager

Ed Courtney began his career in care as a care home activities co-ordinator at the age of 16 and has since experienced all aspects of the care sector

A Devon care home has announced the appointment of its new home manager. Langford Park Care Home, which is in a beautiful rural setting just outside Exeter, has appointed Ed Courtney, who will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the 35-bed care home as well as overseeing the substantial modernisation and refurbishment project currently underway at Langford Park.

Commenting on his new role, Courtney said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to be Langford Park’s new manager. I am very ambitious for the home and my over-arching priority is to improve the lives of those living and working at Langford Park.

“I have a number of exciting plans that are designed to keep our residents stimulated and engaged and I have already hired two new activity co-ordinators who will get the residents up and out gardening, baking, practising yoga and enjoying trips outside the home.  I will ensure that our residents are central to decisions made about the home and the care they receive – which will always be top-quality.”

Having started his career in care as a care home activities co-ordinator at 16, Courtney has since gained broad experience of all aspects of the care sector, where his passion and talent for helping and supporting older people has been fully realised.

In a previous role for a care consultancy, which helps care homes to develop and improve their services, Courney visited hundreds of homes across the country advising managers about staffing matters, the introduction of new systems and how to develop a positive working culture. More recently, he has been a change manager, supporting struggling homes in times of change and difficulty. Incredibly, he managed to turn one home around from being rated ‘inadequate’ by the Care Quality Commission, to achieving a ‘good’ rating in under six months.

In his new role as home manager at Langford Park, Courtney will head up a team of over 50 dedicated employees providing a range of high-quality care services, including residential, dementia, nursing, palliative and respite care. He will also drive forward the major renovation project currently underway at Langford Park.

Significant investment in the interior and exterior of the home will see new lounge spaces and communal areas, a new dining room and furniture, a revamped hair dressing salon and even a new laundry. Following consultation with the home’s residents, all the rooms are also being re-painted too.
