Tea with Alice at Thistle Court Care Home

The home’s recent Open Day, which was attended by two local councillors, featured an Alice in Wonderland theme

Thistle Court Care Home, which is located in the heart of Cwmbran, hosted an Alice in Wonderland themed tea party at its recent Care Home Open Day, which was attended by two local Torfaen County Borough Council councillors, Mandy Owen and Rose Seabourne.

The event began with a warm welcome for Councillor Owen and Councillor Seabourn, who enjoyed a tour of the home’s facilities, starting with the sensory room, a calming and stimulating space which is designed to help residents relax while also helping to enhance their cognitive skills.  The councillors declared themselves impressed with the recent refurbishments, especially the apple tree mural and mock shop and fondly remembering the occasion of a previous visit, Councillor Owen remarked on the home’s welcoming atmosphere.

The highlight of the day was the Alice in Wonderland-themed afternoon tea. The dining area was filled with cakes, Wonderland-themed tablecloths, matching plates, cups and masks. Several residents gathered in the main dining area, while others enjoyed the celebration from the lounges, and all enjoyed a special performance by one of the talented care team members, Stella Adibe Rumi, who charmed everyone with her beautiful singing voice.

Thistle Court hosts many events such as this, which it feels, encourages care team members and residents to connect and engage with each other, thus building relationships that go beyond the typical carer-resident dynamic.
