Global snacking company pladis has revealed that this year’s Global Tea Party was the biggest yet, breaking all previous records.

A total of 1,634 individuals from over 50 UK care homes and healthcare settings took part in the event on the 16th June during Nutrition and Hydration Week.

Both pladis and the team behind the annual Nutrition and Hydration Week had set out to create the record for the biggest number of virtual tea parties running simultaneously.

Scott Snell, vice president sales, UK & Ireland, at pladis, said: “We are blown away by the number of people who got involved with our afternoon tea challenge. The care and time both residents, activities coordinators and carers have put into the events has been inspiring and we have enjoyed seeing the hundreds of photos of everyone savouring a cup of tea and a biscuit.”

Andy Jones of Nutrition and Hydration Week added: “We set out to raise awareness of the value of food and drink in maintaining health and wellbeing in health and social care and over the years, our afternoon tea event has proved very popular. We are thrilled to see the biggest ever turn out this year and we hope everyone involved has enjoyed being part of this momentous occasion.”
